Today we’ve enjoyed a brilliant morning exploring the woods. We wanted to use the woods as a stimulus for writing new stories linked to ‘The Green Ship’ By Quentin Blake. This is a story of two children who make an unexpected discovery in a woodland setting and this takes them on imaginary adventures. Children developed great ideas whilst working in the woods and came up with new stories involving time machines, rockets and castles. Back in the classroom, children showed great enthusiasm, planning their new adventure stories.
We also used our walk to the woods to explore and identify the nature around us. Children selected items of hidden treasure and added these to journey sticks. We also focused on identifying some leaves and spring flowers.
This afternoon we are looking forward to using the wildlife garden to observe and disect the parts of a flower and to take part in some pond dipping.
