British Values

All schools are required to promote fundamental British Values defined as: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

At St. Mary’s we embed British Values in every day school life in a number of ways through:

  • the school’s core Christian values which are embedded throughout the curriculum and explored through assemblies
  • clear whole school and classroom rules
  • the School Council
  • exploration of a wide variety of faiths and cultures in appropriate curriculum areas
  • taking part in charity fundraising activities and interaction with a link school
  • visits to school from people in public service
  • outside the classroom trips and visits to engage with other faiths and democratic institutions
