Music plays an important role in life at Thorncombe St Mary's CE Primary Academy, providing children with opportunities to develop their creativity, confidence and self-expression. Through our progressive music curriculum, children develop their skills in singing, composing, performing and appraising music while exploring a wide range of musical styles and traditions.

Children enjoy weekly music lessons, where they develop their musical knowledge and skills through our progressive curriculum. Throughout their time at school, children have opportunities to learn a variety of instruments, including the recorder, piano, violin, keyboard, guitar and more.

We are fortunate to have a talented musician on our staff team who regularly accompanies class worship, the Nativity, end-of-year productions and other special events, inspiring children through the joy of live music.

Performance is a valued part of school life, with children regularly sharing their talents through collective worship, productions, concerts and community events. These experiences help children to build confidence, work collaboratively and develop a lifelong appreciation of music.

For children wishing to develop their musical skills further, the Somerset Music Academy offers individual and small-group instrumental lessons in school with specialist music teachers. We are also proud to have children who perform as members of the Axe Valley Orchestra, further enriching our musical community.
