We strongly encourage the wearing of school uniform at Thorncombe St Mary's. We believe that our uniform looks smart, provides a sense of equality, belonging and pride. It is also less hassle for parents! 

Key points about uniform:

• identifies the children with the school 
• is not distracting in class (as fashion/street wear clothes might be) 
• makes children feel equal to their peers 

Our School Uniform:

• Grey skirt, pinafore, trousers or shorts
• White polo shirt (branded with school logo is optional)
• Navy blue sweatshirt, cardigan or fleece (branded with school logo is optional)
• Blue and white checked summer dress
• Plain grey, black or white socks
• Grey tights
• Sensible black school shoes (no heels)

Our School PE Kit:

• Navy blue shorts
• Navy blue or black tracksuit style trousers
• White t-shirt (branded with school logo is optional)
• Sensible trainers or plimsolls

Hair:

• In the interest of hygeine and safety, children's hair should be tied back if it long enough to reach their shoulders. Hairstyles should be smart and not extreme in nature.

Jewellery:

• Please ensure jewellery is not worn to school, with the exception of one set of ear studs and watches.

Coats

• Children will need a warm/waterproof coat in school each day.

Other:

• No temporary tattoos, make up or nail varnish should be worn.
• All children will need a refillable water bottle in school each day.

 

The role of parents and carers:

We ask all parents and carers to support the above school uniform expectations. We request that parents and carers send their children to school correctly dressed and ready for their school day. Please ensure that each item of clothing is clearly labelled and that labels are checked periodically through the year as these can fall/rub off easily.

Our school is an inclusive school and if any parent/carer would like to make a request to modify their child's school uniform, we ask that they make representation to the Head of School.

 

Where to buy uniform:

Uniform is available to purchase through My Clothing or Cupine Embroidery (links below). The school will make every effort to ensure these items are of reasonable quality and an affordable price. The remainder of the uniform is available from most high street stores. There is a second hand preloved uniform rail in school which is readily available to children for an optional donation.

Pupils eligible for Pupil Premium are able to claim some free uniform. Please ask at the office for details.
