We are incredibly fortunate to have the support of our parents, carers, governors and volunteers, who all play an important part in school life.

There are many ways to get involved at Thorncombe St Mary's. Our reading volunteers visit every Friday to spend time listening to children read, helping to build confidence, fluency and a love of books. We are also supported by our fantastic Parents and Friends Association (PFA), who work tirelessly to organise fundraising events and provide valuable resources for the school. For example - we were able to recently purchase a new cooker, which has been a wonderful addition to our cooking sessions and has given the children even more opportunities for hands on learning.

Volunteers also support After School Club, share their interests and expertise with the children, help with school events, and accompany us on local walks and educational visits, helping us maintain appropriate adult-to-child ratios.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children, every volunteer meets with a member of the senior leadership team for a short introductory meeting, where our safeguarding procedures are explained. All volunteers are also required to complete an enhanced DBS check before volunteering within the school.
