At Thorncombe St Mary's, we are incredibly fortunate to be part of a supportive village community that plays an important role in enriching our children's learning experiences and personal development.

Our local community regularly works alongside the school in a variety of ways. Local farmers visit with their animals, providing memorable first-hand learning experiences, while visits to the Arla organic dairy farm on the Sadborow Estate are always a favourite. The Thorncombe Village Trust supports children in developing an understanding of local history and encourages environmental awareness, both within our village and beyond.

Children also benefit from using the adjacent Thorncombe Community Swimming Pool during the summer months, helping them to build confidence and develop essential swimming skills. Our beautiful village surroundings provide opportunities to extend learning beyond the school grounds, whether through running events, countryside walks or outdoor learning.

The Thorncombe Environment Group has helped us enhance our outdoor environment by building bug hotels, creating bird boxes and supporting projects that encourage children to care for the natural world.

Every Friday, our dedicated reading volunteers give their time to hear children read, helping to develop confidence, fluency and a lifelong love of books.

We are also grateful for the support of our local First Responders, who help children develop valuable life skills, alongside many other members of our community who generously share their experiences, skills and knowledge to inspire our pupils and broaden their understanding of the wider world.
